Chamber Board of Directors supports League of California Cities in effort to qualify ballot measure restricting state’s ability to raid local finances

January 26th, 2010 · No Comments · Uncategorized

At its January meeting, the Board of Directors of the Pasadena Chamber voted unanimously to support the League of California Cities and others in their efforts to qualify and pass a state ballot measure that would stop the governor and legislature from raiding local budgets and transportation funds to balance the state budget. Pasadena Mayor Bill Bogaard asked the Board to consider the measure and explained its genesis and purpose.

In asking for support, the Mayor cited repeated instances where the legislature and governor raided local government funding and funding guaranteed for vital transportation projects to balance the State budget without significantly addressing the ongoing structural deficits and profligate spending that created state budget shortfalls. In taking local funds, the state has curtailed efforts to enhance local public safety efforts, provide for economic development and fund vital local transportation projects.

The Board of Directors and Mayor Bogaard urge business owners,  residents and workers in the greater Pasadena are to support the efforts to preserve local funding by signing the petition to qualify.
