Pasadena City Council
The Pasadena City Council approved a Water Efficient Landscape Ordinance that would require drought tolerant landscaping on single family properties more than 5000 square feet that propose to add or revise landscaping, all commercial and multi-family residential properties that would add or alter landscaping of more than 2500 square feet and existing properties that have one acre of landscaping.
LA County Board of Supervisors
The Supervisors approved a conditional use permit for Days Inn in east Pasadena. Citing the new ownership, significantly improved conditions and the recent record of exemplary business practices, the supervisors unanimously approved granting the permit to operate.
In the past eight months, more than 10,000 workers have been hired by LA County businesses and agencies for $2.00 an hour – and some at NO cost – using Federal Stimulus funds to help stabilize and grow your business and put people back to work. Jodi Wilia just started at BizFed through this program!
Los Angeles County now is offering FREE Webinars every Wednesday through April 28 with details on the program and how YOUR business can benefit. Go to www.employmentstimulus.org and click the “More Info” button to register.
Do it now because time is running out – the Los Angeles County program currently is only authorized to continue to place participants into subsidized employment until this September.
The Transitional Subsidized Employment Program is receiving $159 million in federal funds to subsidize employment for CalWORKs participants and has partnered with the South Bay Workforce Investment Board (SBWIB). Employers enter an agreement with SBWIB, which acts as the employer of record, performing payroll functions and absorbing Worker’s Compensation liability. Employees will be paid $10 an hour, and can be either full- or part-time. The cost to the employer is just $2 an hour – and quite often ZERO. Highlights of how it works and a flier on the Webinars also are attached. For more information, see www.employmentstimulus.org or contact Dustin Stevenson at the South Bay WIB directly – 310.970.7796 or dstevenson@sbwib.org – to initiate the process.
State of California
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed Assembly Bill X8 6 that allows the state to use gas tax revenues to backfill deficits in the state general fund. The governor also signed AB X9 that sets aside $200 million for homebuyer incentives and alternative energy incentives.
Bob Hope Airport
The Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority voiced its opposition to proposed cuts to Metrolink service to the Bob Hope Airport station. The Authority also announced major initiatives to reduce nighttime noise levels and improve ground transportation at the airport.
