Pasadena Chamber of Commerce Board Votes to Oppose School Parcel Tax Measure CC
At its February meeting, the Board of Directors of the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce voted to formally take a position in opposition to Measure CC, the parcel tax being proposed by the Pasadena Unified School District. Measure CC would impose a $120 per parcel levy to raise $7.5 million per year to support operations of the local school district. The Board’s vote to oppose was not unanimous, and came after lengthy presentations by supporters and opponents of the measure and intense discussion on the part of the Board.
George Brumder, Ed Honowitz and John Pappalardo represented the Measure CC supporters and the Pasadena Unified School District at the meeting. Ross Selvidge presented the opposition view.
After hearing discussion from both sides, it was the consensus of the Board that the PUSD has not adequately explained exactly where the money will be spent, what particular programs will be preserved and, more importantly, what sort of oversight will be instituted and how the district will be held accountable for expenditures.
