The website politifact.com found that Bob Hope Airport’s train station was one of the closest airport train stations in the country, offering special value by virtue of both local commuter rail and Amtrak service. The website was checking out claims by Rhode Island’s governor that T.F. Green Airport in his state had “the closest air-rail link in the country.”  Wrong, says Politifact. Several major airports have closer commuter links.  “And Burbank’s Bob Hope Airport is closer to an Amtrak line. Plus, it has something T.F. Green does not: an actual Amtrak station.”

Pacific Asia Museum presents Obstacleism: Painting by Farr Ligvani on view now through February 26, 2012. Born in Tehran and educated in California, Farr Ligvani focuses his art on ideas of life and evolution. As he has wrestled with life’s obstacles, he realized that the obstacles themselves can lead us to a balance between two opposing forces by providing a space for reconciliation, self-editing and change. In his practice, Ligvani uses abstraction to visualize these ideas. Line, the fundamental element in his work, functions as a visual trace of his psychological journey, while circles and other geometric shapes formed by the matrix of lines are the artist’s encoded descriptions of obstacles in life. The resulting subtle but very rich canvases exude a meditative quality, offering the viewer a moment of contemplation in full and sometimes fraught lives.

CARLOS OSCAR HEADLINES AT THE ICE HOUSE ON Saturday, February 25

Carlos Oscar is one of the most sought after comics today, and the Ice House has him scheduled to perform for one night only on Saturday, February 25. He will also be joined by the hilarious and talented Jim Tavare.

Known for his charming, witty and energetic stage persona, Carlos Oscar fully acts out his jokes by telling stories everyone can identify with, and metamorphosing into various characters and voices. He jokes most often about the humorous side of family, pop-culture and everyday mishaps. His comedy is always a crossover so it has given him a platform to entertain all types of audiences. Carlos prides himself in having a clean act. “When people hear I’m clean, they may think ‘how is he a comic?” The reality is I am much more creative and funnier with material I don’t and won’t fall back on with four-letter words or lewd innuendos to entertain an audience,” he said. It is Carlos’ brand of comedy that has paved the way to appearances on TV such as The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, HBO and his recent Comedy Central performance.

After finishing high school, Carlos enlisted in the U.S Air Force. Upon fulfilling his commitment, he returned to Los Angeles where he attended UCLA to take an acting class. It was during this class that he came to realize that comedy was his gift. “My dream is one day to be blessed with the opportunity to entertain people on TV every week with my own show.”
