Scammers trying to take advantage of me by posing as... ME????

I received three emails yesterday (Thursday) with this heading: EFT Remittance Advice for pasadena-chamber.org - October 27,2022

They each had an htm file to click on. (I did not click.)

Each was addressed to me and came from my email address. Hmmmm.

If you get something similar, especially an unsolicited email from yourself, do not click.

In fact, anything you are not expecting with an html file to click on, it is best to make sure the sender in legit and the person actually sent it to you (if it is someone you know). If it came from your own email, and you did not send it. RUN!!!! Or really just delete it.

Wednesday, I got an email from someone named Brandon which said: Printer notification for paul@pasadena-chamber.org.

I know some Brandons, but not the one whose email address this came from.

Tuesday, I received an email stating: Remittance Advice for paul on October 25, 2022. This one came from Account Payable (not accounts payable... )

Last week, I received on that said: Nеԝ Аuԁiо Note Recieved from +1 *** *** again with an email return address I did not recognize.

Each week there are new variations on this theme. Click here for.... For your money, click here.

Like these that came just this morning:

All linked to htm or html files.

My next door neighbor at home lost a significant amount of money to a scammer who claimed to be a Marine stationed in Montana. She sent him thousands of dollars before her daughter realized what was happening and stopped it. My neighbor is elderly (even more ancient than me) and was lonely and wanted someone to talk with. Someone found her... and her money.

If you receive anything suspicious in an email asking you to click, give information, renew your password, provide personal or financial information, please take the time to verify that it is in fact what it says.

Caution could save you thousands, prevent ransomware, keep you from having your confidential files and records stolen (as happened to Los Angeles Unified School District recently), and more.

Be careful out there.
