Pasadena Police Department Community Brief for September, 2022

This information provides a greater awareness to the Pasadena community. The critical events detailed below are merely a snapshot of the calls received to the Police Communications Center every day. Your police department strives to better serve the Pasadena community. Interim Police Chief Jason Clawson continues to adhere to the principles of the “Pasadena Way” as he leads the Police Department into its new chapter. These principles will forever have a lasting impact on all employees who serve in the organization, as we continue to police with compassion and best intentions.

On September 3, 2022, at 11:09 PM., Officers from the Pasadena Police Department responded to a business in the 300 block of S. Arroyo Pkwy regarding a robbery. When officers arrived, the victims told the officers they were leaving the business when they were approached by three suspects in the parking lot. The suspects pointed a handgun at the victims and demanded that the victims give them their cell phones, jewelry and money. The victims gave the suspects the items, saw the suspects get into an older model 4-door sedan and drive away from the area. The suspects were not located and detectives are continuing the investigation.

On September 4, 2022, at 10:16 A.M., the Pasadena Police Department responded to a residence in the 500 block of N. Holliston Ave. regarding a female who was being held against her will. When officers arrived, they discovered that a female had been prevented from leaving by a male suspect who during the incident brandished a firearm in order to intimidate the female. The suspect was arrested for false imprisonment and officers recovered a firearm from the scene.

On September 4, 2022, at 9:42P.M., Officers from the Pasadena Police Department responded to a health spa in the 2900 block of E. Colorado Blvd. regarding a sexual assault. When officers arrived, the victim told them she was preparing to give the suspect a massage when he began demanding to have sex with her. The victim refused and the suspect grabbed her and began assaulting her. The suspect at one point pulled out a firearm and pointed it at the victim. The victim continued to fight off the suspect and was eventually able to push off the suspect and scream for help. The suspect left the business on a bicycle but was arrested a few days later by Detectives.

On September 9, 2022, at 9:40 A.M., the Pasadena Police Department responded to the 800 block of N. Marengo Ave. regarding a call of a male seen firing a handgun in the area. Officers checked the area but were unable to find the suspect but did find evidence of a shooting. Officers found bullet strike marks on vehicles in the immediate area and collected eleven expended shell casings.

On September 9, 2022, at 6:59 P.M., Officers from the Pasadena Police Department responded to the area of Howard St. and Navarro Ave. regarding a male who brandished a firearm at three victims. Before officers arrived on scene, the suspect had been in a verbal confrontation with the occupants of a moving vehicle. When the vehicle left the area, the suspect turned and pointed a handgun at the victims who were sitting on the porch of their home. The victims quickly went into their home and the suspect left the area.

On September 9, 2022, at 8:55 P.M., the Pasadena Police Department responded to the 1500 block of E. Colorado Blvd. regarding a knife assault. Before officers arrived on scene the suspect left the area leaving behind the knife. When officers arrived, it was determined that the male suspect was involved in a verbal argument with the victim. During the argument, the suspect pulled out a folding knife and threatened to stab the victim. The victim was not injured in this incident and officers recovered the knife in the area. The victim knows the suspect and detectives will be continuing this investigation.

On September 11, 2022 at 10:34 P.M., Officers from the Pasadena Police Department responded to the area of Fair Oaks Ave. and Orange Grove Blvd. regarding an armed robbery. When officers arrived on scene, the victim told officers she was walking to her boyfriend’s home when she felt the suspect press a knife against the side of her abdomen. The suspect demanded that the victim hand over her backpack. The suspect took the backpack and left the area on foot.

On September 12, 2022 at 2:29 P.M., Pasadena Police officers responded to the 200 block of S. Raymond Ave. regarding an assault with a deadly weapon. When officers arrived, the victim told the officers that he was pulling into a nearby parking structure when he saw the suspect standing in the middle of the driving lane. The suspect refused to move out of the lane of vehicle traffic, and the victim maneuvered around the suspect to continue trying to park. While driving around the suspect, the victim heard a loud thump at the back of his car, so he got out to look. When the victim exited the vehicle, the suspect hit the victim in the back with a black metal baton. The suspect got into a grey sedan and left the area. The suspect was later arrested after officers located the suspect vehicle and impounded it.

On September 13, 2022, at 11:55 P.M., Officers from the Pasadena PD responded to the 1900 block of Lincoln Ave. regarding a battery investigation. When officers arrived the victim told them he had been previously caught spray painting "East Side Pasa" on school property by the suspects. The suspects confronted the victim at a later date and challenged him to a fight. The victim refused and walked away. As the victim was walking away, both suspects repeatedly punched the victim in the face and head causing him to lose consciousness. The victim believes both suspects wore brass knuckles as they hit him. The victim was taken to the hospital by relatives. The school was notified and the investigation is ongoing.

On September 16, 2022, at 4:39 P.M., Pasadena Police officers received information that a social media threat of a shooting was possibly directed at Pasadena High School. During the investigation, it was discovered that the threat was made by a student that attends the school. The principal of the school was contacted and he assisted with the investigation. Officers spoke to the student and after interviewing him, determined the threat was not credible. The student admitted to posting the threat on Instagram but stated he did it as a prank. The student’s parents were advised of the seriousness of their son’s action and a potential discipline that may be issued by the school officials.

On September 18, 2022 at 11:52 A.M., Pasadena Police officers responded to a collision involving vehicle and a pedestrian in the area of Marengo Ave. and Dearborn St. A female crossing Marengo Ave. was struck by a dark sedan which was driving southbound. The sedan then left the scene without rendering aid or calling the authorities. The female was transported to Huntington Hospital where she was pronounced deceased. The Traffic Section's Major Accidents Investigation Team (MAIT) team responded and is continuing the investigation.

On September 18, 2022, at 5:05 P.M., Officers from the Pasadena PD responded to the area of Wilson Ave. and Colorado Blvd. regarding a shots fired call. When officers arrived on scene, they located evidence of a shooting and a victim that was uncooperative. During the investigation, it was determined that the victim and suspect got into a verbal altercation. The suspect got into a dark colored sedan and fired one round in the direction of the victim as he drove away. The victim was not injured, however an unoccupied parked vehicle was struck by the bullet. Assisting units searched the area but did not find the suspect.

September 20, 2022, at 7:12 P.M., Officers from the Police Department’s Neighborhood Action Team (NAT) heard a radio broadcast of a theft that occurred in the 2100 block of E. Colorado Blvd. Dispatch advised the responding officers that the suspect left the store with TV monitors and left the area in a black pick-up truck. NAT officers located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle. During the traffic stop the officers saw the stolen items in plain view inside of the vehicle and they recovered a ghost gun. The suspect was arrested and booked in the Pasadena Jail.

September 21, 2022, at 1:36 A.M., a Pasadena Police officer was patrolling in the area of Foothill Blvd. and Sierra Madre Blvd. when he saw a male subject jaywalk across Altadena Dr. The officer attempted to contact the subject but he immediately ran from the officer. The officer pursued the subject and was able to detain him without incident quickly after. When officers canvassed the path that the suspect took while running, they located a handgun. The suspect admitted to discarding the gun and was arrested for multiple gun possession charges and multiple outstanding warrants.

On September 26, 2022, at 6:56 P.M., Pasadena Police officers responded to a bus stop in the 1000 block of N. Fair Oaks Ave. regarding an assault investigation. When officers arrived on scene, the victim told them he attempted to sit on the bus bench when the female suspect, who was already sitting on the bench, began yelling at him and calling him a sexual deviant. The suspect then brandished a knife and held the knife against the victim’s chest. The victim was able to get away from the suspect and called police. Officers detained and later arrested the suspect.

On September 28, 2022, at 5:58 P.M., Officers from the Pasadena PD responded to a residence in the 1800 block of Kenneth Way regarding a family disturbance. When officers arrived at the residence, they contacted all parties involved including the suspect. The victim indicated his uncle threatened him with a firearm. Officers searched the area and found a holster and a handgun that the victim confirmed as being the same weapon his uncle used to threaten him. Officers arrested the suspect.

On September 29, 2022, at 6:41 P.M., Officers from the Pasadena Police Department’s Criminal Intelligence Unit conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a vehicle in the area of Worcester Ave. and Orange Grove Blvd. Officers contacted the driver of the vehicle and asked the driver to exit the vehicle because of his suspended driver’s license status. The officers obtained consent to search the vehicle and while searching in the trunk of the vehicle found a handgun with an obliterated serial number. The suspect was arrested for a felony firearms violation.
