40 Pasadena eateries celebrate the invention of the cheeseburger in Pasadena with delicious offerings, specials and more, sample them and vote for your favorite in the Cheeseburger Challenge

As Pasadena celebrates the invention of the cheeseburger in the city in 1924, 40 restaurants, burger joints and more take part in the citywide celebration. 

Several participants in the 2020 Cheeseburger Week celebration and Cheeseburger Challenge are offering special meals and deals. 

Those offering special meals include:

• El Portal Restaurant and Yahaira's Cafe return with the very popular Zacatecas Burger: Ground beef, ground pork and chorizo with special flavorings in a telera roll with tomato cheese, ham and secret chipotle sauce. Comes with fries;
• Mi Piace in Old Pasadena has created the Black Label Burger: exclusive Prime Rib Eye and Brisket mix with aged Vermont cheddar, raw Vidalia onion, organic tomato- Boston lettuce- fresh made 1000 island- toasted sesame brioche bun, served with in house thick cut fries;
• Pie 'n Burger has a special Cheeseburger Week meal deal for $14.00 (tax and tip not included). Download the coupon here

• The Stand offers an LTO special "Bacon Jam Double Smash" for only $8;
• Foothill in east Pasadena offers a cocktail special for Cheeseburger Week, the Eastsider made with gin, aloe vera, mint, lime, cucumber along with their Spicy BBQ Burger along with their braised Short Rib Sliders;
• Clearman’s Northwoods Inn has created the Southwest Burger made with chipotle mayo, provolone, fresh lettuce, tomato, caramelized onions and tasty avocado on a brioche bun;
• Dog Haus and Dog Haus Biergarten offer the any of their Haus Burgers for $6.99 or Cheeseburger Sliders at 99¢ each, as a dine-in items only;
• The Terrace at the Langham Huntington Hotel Pasadena offers the specially chef created Green Chile Cheeseburger. For dessert, the Terrace is offering an amazing Sweet Cheeseburger and Fries made from a Macaron Sesame Seed Bun, Chocolate Ganache, Raspberry Jam, Chocolate and Coconut Flakes with White Chocolate Fries and Strawberry Sauce (photo available);
• The Great Maple is offering a special prix fixe menu for $20. They are also offering a Doughnut Burger, their Steakhouse Burger

  

  sandwiched between two of Great Maple’s famous Housemade Maple Bacon Doughnuts;
• Clearman’s Galley (The Boat) offers the Flame-Broiled Burger;
• The Taproom at the Langham Huntington Hotel offers their special Brietwixt Sliders consisting of Garlic Brioche, Blackened Beyond Burger, Slow Roasted Garlic Aioli, Pinot Noir pickled beets, Brie de Meaux, Hen of the Woods Mushrooms;
• The Royce Woodfired Steakhouse at the Langham offers a delicious chef-prepared Australian Wagyu Cheeseburger.

Want to try more than one burger? Organize a Cheeseburger Crawl with friends and visit as many restaurants as you want. Order burgers to share and enjoy a beverage and side dish, if you like.

Join with friends and make a night of it by organizing a Cheeseburger Crawl. It works best with four or eight. Simply pick four restaurants to visit, order a cheeseburger and cut it into quarters, then each friend tastes it. Move on to the next place and do the same. After four restaurants, you each will have tasted four burgers. Enjoy drinks, have a beer, or just enjoy your cheeseburgers.

Here are some suggested Cheeseburger Crawls:

 

• Playhouse District Cheeseburger Crawl
  • Start at Yahaira's or El Portal for their famous and amazingly delicious Zacatecas Burger made with a delicious combination of beef and chorizo;
  • Down Green Street and up El Molino, across from the Pasadena Playhouse, you'll find The Stand, winner of the Cheeseburger Challenge favorite burger in 2018. Try one of their delicious burgers on the patio and enjoy Southern California in the winter;
  • Next, stop in at Roy's Hawaiian at El Molino and Colorado for their tasty Wagyu Burger;
  • Walk off some of those calories and stroll a few blocks west to The Great Maple for a nightcap and their extra special Doughnut Burger.

 

• South Lake Avenue Cheeseburger Crawl
  • Start on Shopper’s Lane with a craft cocktail and a couple of Green Street Restaurant's gourmet burgers;
  • A little down Lake Avenue (at Del mar), have a drink or craft beer (if you have a designated driver) at Granville and enjoy their Bacon and Blue Burger;
  • across Lake Avenue and past Macy's find Paul Martin's American Grill (455 South Lake in the Shops on Lake) where you can enjoy a classic burger or a veggie burger paired with a glass of beer, fine wine or craft cocktail;
  • Finish up on Lake Avenue with a Smokehouse Burger at Smitty’s and a nightcap (if someone else is behind the wheel);

 

• Traditional Cheeseburger Crawl
  • Begin at Pasadena's favorite burger stand, Pie 'n Burger at 913 East California Boulevard for a classic grilled burger
  • Stop in at Lucky Baldwin’s Trappiste Pub on east Colorado Boulevard for a Belgian Ale (or something else) and an American Burger;
  • then head up to Dog Haus (105 North Hill Avenue) for their traditional Cheeseburger (or something more dramatic);
  • then finish up at Clearman’s Northwoods Inn at 7247 Rosemead Boulevard in nearby San Gabriel;

 

• Old Pasadena Cheeseburger Crawl
  • Begin at Dog Haus Biergarten (93 East Green Street) for a craft cocktail or local craft beer with Haus Burger;
  • Then cross Raymond and around the corner at Colorado to Umami for one of their off the hook burgers. (Try the Impossible Burger for something really special);
  • Keep going west to DeLacey Avenue and cross diagonally down to White Horse Lounge for a terrific craft cocktail and their delicious Arroyo Burger or Apple Brie Bacon Burger;
  • finish up at Lucky Baldwin's Pub at Colorado and Raymond for a delicious craft beer and one of Lucky's signature burgers.

 

• White Table Cloth Cheeseburger Crawl
  • Start at one of Pasadena’s premier destination for beef, Alexanders Steakhouse at Los Robles and Union (near City Hall) for their burger and enjoy a delicious cocktail, too;
  • next visit Fleming's Prime Steakhouse and Wine Bar at Marengo and Colorado for some truly delicious Prime Burger that you'll find on the bar and lunch menu,
  • Check out the deliciousness that is the Black Label Burger at Mi Piace at Colorado and Fair Oaks in Old Pasadena.
  • finish up at Pasadena’s finest, The Langham Huntington Hotel where you can enjoy a delicious and deluxe burger at The Taproom (for Brietwixt Sliders), The Royce Wood-Fired Steakhouse (for the Australian Wagyu Burger) or The Terrace (for the Green Chile Cheeseburger) and do not miss the dessert Sweet Cheeseburger and Fries. 

 

• Dedicate a Driver and Take A Craft Beer and Cheeseburger Crawl
  • Start out at Colorado Boulevard and Raymond Avenue at Lucky Baldwin's  for a burger and beer in a traditional pub setting
  • Next stop is Dog Haus Biergarten Old Pasadena for a burger and an awesome selection of craft beers on draught
  • then head west down Colorado Boulevard to King's Row Gastropub where some special burgers and great beers await
  • finish up in east Pasadena at Foothill (on Foothill just east of San Gabriel Boulevard) for their specially created Eastsider cocktail and a Spicy BBQ Burger.

 

• East Pasadena Cheeseburger Crawl
  • Start at Lucky Baldwin's Trappiste Pub at 1770 East Colorado Boulevard for a terrific burger and imported craft beer in a great pub setting;
  • then head east on Colorado to Sierra Madre and Plate 38 for a tasty burger;
  • Get as beer and a burger at Stonefire Grill on Rosemead Boulevard in east Pasadena;
  • finish up at Clearman's Galley at 7215 Rosemead Boulevard in San Gabriel for their Flame Broiled Burger and a nightcap if someone else is driving.
