Nominations pen for Vroman's Teacher of the Year

With your help, Vroman's will honor one of our community's many outstanding teachers by presenting them with the title of TEACHER OF THE YEAR. Nominate your favorite teacher by telling us why they deserve this award: Have they made a difference in your life? Have they inspired your love of reading? Do they go beyond the call of duty in their job? Do they make learning fun? Whatever the reason, tell us why your teacher deserves this special recognition!

THE PRIZE: The Vroman's Bookstore 2025-2026 Teacher of the Year will be awarded a $500 gift card. A $500 gift card will also be donated to the Teacher of the Year's school or library. A $100 gift card will be given to the person who submitted the nomination.

TO NOMINATE: Send us a typed or handwritten essay of 500 words or less. (Must be legible.) Include your name, email, phone number, and address, along with the teacher's name and their school information. Teachers MUST be school teachers who are CURRENTLY employed by a school (private or public) in the Pasadena and surrounding areas. Teachers may teach any grade, any subject.

LA Fire Justice Community Rising Dinner

Join LA Fire Justice for the Community Rising Dinner. This special event will take place on June 25th, with doors opening at 5:30 PM. Dinner and our program will begin at 6:00 PM.  Secretary of State, Dr. Shirley Weber is the Guest Speaker.  Michael Ocon, Executive Director of the Eaton Fire Collaborative will provide Eaton Fire survivors with service opportunities. Pasadena Water and Power Open House

Pasadena Water and Power (PWP) is hosting an interactive Open House on Thursday, June 25, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Jackie Robinson Community Center, 1020 N. Fair Oaks Ave.

Attendees can move through multiple themed stations to speak directly with PWP staff and learn about key topics, including the new solar and battery storage rebate program, how to read their PWP bill, current and upcoming rates, infrastructure priorities, water conservation, energy‑efficiency incentives, and how PWP maintains reliable water and energy services for Pasadena. The event follows a flexible, drop‑in‑anytime format so visitors can explore at their own pace. Light refreshments will be provided.

Comedy Festival returns to Astronaut City

The San Gabriel Valley Comedy Festival returns August 23-29, 2026, and we're excited to announce this year's headliners. The 2026 festival will feature nationally recognized comedians, Emmy Award-winning writers, television stars, and some of the most influential voices in Asian American comedy. Confirmed headliners include Aparna Nancherla (Netflix's The Standups, BoJack Horseman, Late Night with Seth Meyers), Brian Kiley (27-year writer for Conan and two-time Emmy winner), Ahmed Bharoocha (Conan, Comedy Central, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert), Kiki Yeung (Crazy Woke Asians), PK (Kollaboration), Erik Escobar (NBC's Last Comic Standing), Sally Mullins (Amazon Prime's Sleazy Does It), and more. 

Hosted at Astronaut City Comedy Club and Karaoke Bar in Arcadia, the festival celebrates the diverse voices, cultures, and comedy communities that make Southern California one of the most exciting places in the world for stand-up comedy. Altadena Recovery Center 15 year anniversary

Altadena Recovery Center is proud to celebrate 15 years of dedicated service to individuals and families throughout Altadena, Pasadena, and surrounding Los Angeles County communities. As a Joint Commission Accredited outpatient substance use treatment program, the center provides compassionate, comprehensive, and individualized care for those seeking recovery from alcohol and drug addiction. Since its founding, Altadena Recovery Center has remained committed to improving quality of life through counseling, case management, relapse prevention, life skills development, and ongoing recovery support. To commemorate this milestone, the center will host a 15-Year Anniversary and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Friday, August 14, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at 3025 Lincoln Avenue in Altadena. The celebration, hosted in partnership with the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce, will bring together community leaders, healthcare professionals, and local supporters. The event will recognize the organization's long standing impact while highlighting its vision for continued growth and service to the community. Altadena Recovery Center remains dedicated to restoring hope, empowering recovery, and helping individuals and families build healthier and more fulfilling lives.

Allensworth is the first municipality in California that was founded, funded, and governed by Black people.
