Vroman's part of First LA Indie Book Crawl
From Manhattan Beach to Montrose, from West Hollywood to Westchester to West LA, from Studio City to Pasadena to Santa Monica, with Culver City in between, 13 independent bookstores across the greater Los Angeles region are joining forces to create an unforgettable weekend for Los Angeles's bibliophiles. The inaugural Los Angeles Indie Book Crawl will take place on Friday, July 24, Saturday, July 25 and Sunday, July 26, during regular store hours (check website for information). This special event, modeled after popular book crawls in San Diego and Seattle, is an invitation for readers to explore the diversity of LA’s indie bookstores, shop local, and have fun while discovering a new favorite read and a new favorite spot to get properly lost in. The event is free and open to everyone.
To participate, visit any one of the bookstores anytime between July 24-26, and make your first purchase of at least $10. From there, you will receive your Book Crawl Passport and first passport stamp. Then simply visit the next bookstore (in no particular order) and make a purchase of $10 or more at each stop. Many prizes and exclusive merchandise are available at every store. Hit as many as you can -- the more you visit, the more prizes you accrue, and the more of LA's diverse and welcoming literary scene you get to explore.
People who get their passports stamped at all 13 stores will receive a goodie bag full of fun bookish treats including the grand prize: $25 gift cards at each store, totaling $325 in value.

New Caltech President Takes Helm
Astronomer Ray Jayawardhana took the helm as Caltech’s 10th president on July 1st. . (See his warm message to the Caltech community below.) We look forward to sustaining our partnership with you and the Chamber of Commerce during this new administration.
In his welcome message to the campus, Dr. Jayawardhana explained, "I step into this role with profound respect for all that makes Caltech singular. I can imagine no greater privilege—or more exciting adventure—than working alongside all of you as we build on Caltech’s unsurpassed legacy of discovery and impact and chart its next frontiers together."
Attorney Omel Nieves Honored with Doctorate at CalStateLA
Hunt, Ortmann Shareholder Omel Andres Nieves has been honored with a Doctor of Laws by California State University, Los Angeles–and was invited to deliver the Commencement Address to the Class of 2026. In addition, Omel was recently honored with the Golden Eagle Award for his longstanding dedication and efforts.

Mobility Service Dogs Needs Puppy Raisers
Marshall, Chase, and Rocky are ready to begin their journey, and they need Puppy Raisers to help guide their first steps.
This is a 20-month commitment to support FUNctional independence as our Service Dogs change lives. Thanks to a generous donor, a stipend is available as a thank you for your time, energy, and care involved in raising a future service dog. Comedy Festival returns to Astronaut City
The San Gabriel Valley Comedy Festival returns August 23-29, 2026, and we're excited to announce this year's headliners. The 2026 festival will feature nationally recognized comedians, Emmy Award-winning writers, television stars, and some of the most influential voices in Asian American comedy. Confirmed headliners include Aparna Nancherla (Netflix's The Standups, BoJack Horseman, Late Night with Seth Meyers), Brian Kiley (27-year writer for Conan and two-time Emmy winner), Ahmed Bharoocha (Conan, Comedy Central, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert), Kiki Yeung (Crazy Woke Asians), PK (Kollaboration), Erik Escobar (NBC's Last Comic Standing), Sally Mullins (Amazon Prime's Sleazy Does It), and more.
Hosted at Astronaut City Comedy Club and Karaoke Bar in Arcadia, the festival celebrates the diverse voices, cultures, and comedy communities that make Southern California one of the most exciting places in the world for stand-up comedy. Additional performers and ticketing information will be announced throughout the summer. Altadena Recovery Center 15 year anniversary
Altadena Recovery Center is proud to celebrate 15 years of dedicated service to individuals and families throughout Altadena, Pasadena, and surrounding Los Angeles County communities. As a Joint Commission Accredited outpatient substance use treatment program, the center provides compassionate, comprehensive, and individualized care for those seeking recovery from alcohol and drug addiction. Since its founding, Altadena Recovery Center has remained committed to improving quality of life through counseling, case management, relapse prevention, life skills development, and ongoing recovery support. To commemorate this milestone, the center will host a 15-Year Anniversary and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Friday, August 14, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at 3025 Lincoln Avenue in Altadena. The celebration, hosted in partnership with the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce, will bring together community leaders, healthcare professionals, and local supporters. The event will recognize the organization's long standing impact while highlighting its vision for continued growth and service to the community.
